National Portrait Gallery and General Updates

Yesterday we had a field trip to the National Portrait Gallery.  It's kind of like the Hall of Fame because anybody who is anybody from Britain is in there.  It's got portraits of everyone from kings and queens to Charles Dickens to Mick Jagger.

I was most excited to see this funny looking fellow:
This is Lancelot Brown, a landscape designer.  I'm very fond of him because I did a paper and oral report about his last semester and I'm a pretty big fan of his work.  I also saw his picture at Hampton Court last week.  Every time I see him I get excited.  I think sometimes just seeing something familiar makes me feel a little bit more at home here.

Then last night I watched Sherlock with the N. Mason family and some of the other girls.  It was really fun watching something set in London and being able to recognize the places they show and to get some of the jokes that I wouldn't have otherwise.  I was pretty pleased when they showed the Tower of London and I was like, hey!  I've been there!  By the way, I have two professors.  Their names are Nick and Matthew Mason and they're brothers.  Their wives also have the same name!  Because of that, we often just call them Nick or Matt.  That's why I keep abbreviating their names.

We have a whiteboard in the hall leading to the servery (kitchen). Last night was my favorite thing ever posted.  It was a list of rumors.  My favorites?  Matt Mason's real name is Boudicca (it's an inside joke...) and Nick Mason mutters old English in his sleep.  There's also a list of girls who want to go on splits with the sister missionaries.  Hopefully I'll get to do that soon!

Now I have a cold.  I think I'm allergic to this place.  I keep getting sick from one thing or another!  So I'm going to be trying very hard to not eat sugar or dairy for a few days to try to speed up the recovery time.  That's really hard to do here!

But.  My ankles have completely stopped hurting!  I'm not quite as homesick.  I'm feeling a little bit more comfortable with the group.  All in all, things are getting better.  If you offered me a plane ticket home, I wouldn't take it when I might have up to this point.  HOORAY!

  1. Say Hi to uncle Nick and uncle Matt for me, Ha Ha, just kidding, I wish I had an uncle that muttered old English in his sleep :) It is awesome to hear you are doing well and having such a good time. VJ pointed out how long you have been gone the other day and I couldn't believe it! Oh and I tried to salute Bryn the other day before leaving work and it just wasn't the same, although I did learn I am supposed to do it off my glasses. Oh and if you go to King's Cross station I want to see a picture of you trying to get on to platform 9 and 3/4 you Slytherin you :)
