Is It Creepy That I Love Ruins So Much?

We had a few hours left in Edinburgh before we left.  Our first stop was possibly the most important place we went to.  See?

Unfortunately we got so busy souvenir shopping we forgot that we were going to be on the coach for several hours and should have grabbed something for lunch.  Oops.  Luckily we stopped and a rest stop and we were able to grab something to eat.  Unfortunately I didn't get anything more substantial because 40 pounds went missing out of my wallet (I still have no idea what happened to it) and I was going to be hungry for the rest of the trip.

On our way to York we were headed to Fountain's Abbey.  I love ruins.  I had a great time wandering what used to be the halls of this magnificent abbey.  It's interesting to think about the people who would have lived and worked there years ago.  Did they ever guess that someday their beloved abbey would end up like this, with stairs leading to nowhere and just bits of floor or wall in some places?

At this point I was pretty sick of constantly being around people and cranky because I was hungry.  I insisted on going around by myself for a temporary break from the group.  Apparently it is extremely important for me to have alone time.  Eventually I lose the ability to be nice.  Or if not the ability, the desire.  Being around people constantly stresses me out.

A few more hours later and we arrived in York.  Everyone went to dinner.  I walked around with them and then went back to the hotel (Hey!  A hotel!  With real beds!  And only one roommate!  And a shower that worked properly!) and tried not to think about how hungry I was.

The next morning we had breakfast at 7:30 and then we went on a walk around York.  The amazing thing about York is that it still has all these medieval buildings and has a good part of the walls that used to surround the city.  We walked on the walls (some places didn't even have a barrier on the other side.  Scary!) and saw the old buildings.  The thing is, in modern times we can't leave things alone.  We passed some beautiful old churches that had been turned into bars and things like that.  I was scandalized.

We then had tours at Yorkminster.  Although all these cathedrals and churches have been getting less exciting I really enjoyed this one.

The picture turned out really dark for some reason but can you see something up there by the ceiling that doesn't belong?

 I'll give you a hint.  A Disney character.  It's a balloon.

After we were done at Yorkminster everyone else went to get lunch (not having any money or the ability to get money is horrible!).  I followed them to make sure I could get back to the coach.

Although I never want to see a bus again, I kept my eyes on the road signs because we passed by Leeds (Matthew Lewis who plays Neville Longbottom is from there), Sherwood Forest, and Nottingham.  I quite enjoyed it.

Finally we made it home.  A bunch of people were going to go see Hunger Games but they accidentally all bought tickets to a theatre two and a half hours away.  It wasn't happening.  A few people managed to make it anyway but there was a lot of despair going around the centre.

So that was the end of the North Trip!  So awesome!

  1. I loved Fountains Abbey. Great pictures of York (I was particularly fond of York Minster too.) Cool that you saw Sherwood Forest. I can't believe you'll be home so soon.

I admire your ability to laugh at yourself. :)
